Adrian Cronauer, the subject of the 1987 Robin Williams movie "Good Morning, Vietnam" was an announcer on Roanoke's WPVR, playing easy listening & beautiful music in the early '70s. He did part-time air work and served for two years as the Station Manager. Cronauer later went to law school at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He was given the 1992 Ohio State Award for a special program on National Public Radio about the role of military radio during the Vietnam War and two 1991 Gold Medals from the New York Radio Festival. The British Broadcasting Company produced "Vietnam 40 years later" featuring Cronauer.
